Starting with Strength- My Journey to Nicole's Wedding in Puerto Rico!

There’s something magical about the moment you realize you can do something on your own—

I was heading to Puerto Rico for my granddaughter Nicole’s wedding to her beautiful bride, BreAna. But before the beachside vows and the joyful family reunion, there was a quiet triumph: I got myself to Grand Central Station. Alone. Confident. Empowered.

I commuted to Grand Central a lot during my career and part of why I chose to live where I live is because of the close proximity to the train. So, taking the train to meet my Grandson Jeffrey felt like the perfect way to start this trip. We spent the night at his apartment in Greenwich Village, and the next morning, we were up early and off to JFK.

The wedding was held right on the beach, with the ocean breeze and sunset light that was absolutely picture perfect. Nicole and BreAna were radiant—two glowing brides, each with their unique look, surrounded by family. I had the joy of being there with several of my grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each moment a reminder of how rich life becomes when we show up for each other.

My great niece and a professional makeup artist, gave me a makeover that was truly amazing!
I usually stick to lipstick, but this time I let her work her magic—and I felt fabulous. It was more than makeup; it was a celebration of stepping outside my comfort zone and embracing the moment.

This trip reminded me that spontaneity isn’t just about booking a flight or saying yes to a new experience—it’s about trusting yourself. It’s about knowing that independence doesn’t fade with age; it deepens. And when you start a journey with confidence, everything that follows feels like a gift.

So here’s to spontaneous joy, to family, to love in all its forms—and to the quiet victories that make the biggest difference.
